What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also called ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’ is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses tiny sterile needles to stimulate the skin’s natural healing. This process, called ‘dermal remodeling’, stimulates the skin to produce more collagen and elastin resulting in firmer, smoother skin.
How it works:
A handheld device with tiny needles creates microscopic punctures in the skin. This activates a low grade inflammatory response which stimulates the skin to produce new collagen. Collagen levels decline as we age and new collagen can be produced when the skin is in repair mode.
How many treatments will I need?
While this is largely dependent on age, typically a series of three to five monthly treatments are recommended to achieve desired results.
Benefits:
- Improves the texture and appearance of skin by encouraging the skin to regenerate which can help keep the skin supple and tight.
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating skin regeneration.
- Helps to minimize pores by plumping the skin around the pores to appear smaller
- Improves the appearance of scars by breaking down scar tissue and filling in depressed scars, this includes acne scars, surgical scars and stretch marks.
- Reduces hyperpigmentation and dark spots by creating a new layer of skin that is more uniform in color and texture. Microneedling is a good option for people with darker skin tones because it doesn’t use heat, light, or lasers, which can worsen pigmentation problems.
- Encourages hair growth by stimulating the hair follicles into an active growth phase.
